Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs, Hector Hajjar, said that “stopping the aid given to the poorest families in Lebanon as part of the national support program constitutes a threat to the social security of citizens.”

Noting that “the situation in Lebanon has worsened and the number of people living below the poverty line has increased,” Hajjar announced that he had begun “negotiations with donor countries.”

In a press conference held at the Ministry on Friday, he stressed that “we must, on the one hand, review the legal texts and, on the other, put pressure on donor countries to avoid being confronted with social problems that we cannot cope with.”

“Is this the way to treat a country that has welcomed Syrian migrants to its territory for twelve years?” he asked.

In this context, Hajjar turned his attention to the Aman program, which is part of the social protection network financed by the World Bank in the form of a soft loan to respond to the emergency crisis in Lebanon.
