Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Defense Elias Murr has decided to leave the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) “after ten years at the helm” of the Interpol Foundation for a Safer World and “before the end of his mandate in 2028.”
The decision to step down was taken “in agreement with the Secretary General of Interpol, Mr. Jürgen Stock,” according to a press release by Murr’s office.
The office points out that Murr “drew up the strategic plan to support Interpol and implemented seven global security programs benefiting 195 countries.”
These programs include the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, the Anti-Money Laundering Project (AMEAP), the Cybercrime Information Sharing Platform, as well as initiatives to combat smuggling, human trafficking and online child sexual abuse, and the protection of cultural heritage.
According to the press release, “the organization and the Interpol Foundation have published a report highlighting the major initiatives and achievements accomplished under Murr’s leadership in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, covering 195 countries.”
