The Lebanese Audit Court has issued a report clearing Army Commander-in-Chief Joseph Aoun of all the accusations leveled against him by the Minister of Defense, Maurice Slim, confirming “the absence of violations of applicable laws.”

Reports note that this step may pave the way for further “deterrent measures” to prevent attacks on the army and security forces.

As part of these efforts, sources suggest that certain names of those targeted by political forces and media figures have already been given to the Special Public Prosecutor. This verdict comes after months of Slim’s vocal objections to both Aoun’s consideration as a presidential candidate and the extension of his term as Commander-in-Chief for an additional year.

Slim had previously accused Aoun of overstepping his role and jurisdiction, echoing the attitudes of Gebran Bassil and the FPM, to which he is close.
