Lebanese Army Commander-in-Chief General Joseph Aoun met with a delegation of the Maronite Central Council, headed by its president Michel Matta, who “rejected there being a vacancy in the army command and also rejected appointments being made in the absence of a president, especially during this critical stage in Lebanon’s history.” The delegation affirmed that “General Aoun enjoys the confidence of all Lebanese.”

Expressing support for the military institution as “the guarantor of the security of the State and its citizens, particularly in these critical times,” the delegation condemned “the incitement campaigns waged against the army Commander.”

The discussion also covered the general situation of the military institution, particularly in South Lebanon. Finally, the delegation praised “the efforts made by the command, officers and members of the army and the wisdom they have shown in managing security tensions and attempting to guarantee security and stability” in the country.
