Former President Amin Gemayel fears that Lebanon might face the same fate as the Golan Heights and the West Bank that Israel occupied and lose parts of its land, warning against “recklessness or any reckless act.”

“Lebanon is going through a difficult phase, and we fear that it could escalate due to any recklessness or incomplete action that might increasingly embroil Lebanon, endanger its independence, and put the entire country at risk,” he said during the mass that was held at Saint Michael’s Church in Kfaryassine on Tuesday evening, marking the 17th anniversary of the martyrdom of Minister Pierre Gemayel and his companion Samir El Shartouni.

Gemayel relayed his concern about the near future, hoping and praying that “no one’s rashness leads Lebanon to further ruin.”

“Regardless of circumstances or events, we believe in Lebanon’s unity and its people, and despite the challenges, we will remain a unified front to defend Lebanon, no matter the political leanings or influences,” he said, emphasizing “our commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty, which is our concern.”

“At this moment, we remember Pierre and the legacy he established, the journey we are committed to — a journey of independence, patriotism, and defending Lebanon until the very end,” he said.
