US President Joe Biden assured that his country “will continue to work closely with Lebanon and its partners in the Middle East to maintain peace and prevent the conflict” in Gaza from spreading to Lebanon.

In a message to Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of independence, Biden reiterated his country’s commitment to stability and prosperity in the region. He also emphasized the historic relationship between the United States and Lebanon.

Mikati also received congratulatory messages from several heads of state, including King Abdullah II of Jordan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, who took the opportunity to support Lebanon’s independence, as well as Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Irish President Michael D. Higgins.
