Sami Al-Hassan was elected president of the Tripoli Bar Association after the withdrawal of his competitor, Safwan Al-Mustafa, on Sunday afternoon. The ballot boxes closed at 2:00 PM, with Marie Therese Al-Qawwal, the former Tripoli Bar Association, announcing the results of the first round. Al-Hassan secured a lead with 618 votes. Additionally, Ibrahim Harfoush won a seat on the council.

Al-Kawwal declared a second round of elections, commencing at 3:00 PM and concluding at 7:00 PM. It lead to the election of Sami el-Hassan, who expressed his commitment to unifying the legal community, stating, “Working together, we will elevate the bar association and strengthen the rights of lawyers.”

Al-Hassan extended gratitude to former president Marie Therese Al-Qawwal for the “distinguished elections” and thanked fellow lawyers for participating despite the rainy weather, considering it a “blessing from God.”

Expressing his dedication, Al-Hassan stated, “I am the president for all lawyers, and I hope to serve each and every one, big or small. Let’s be effective together.” He emphasized the importance of unity, transcending political affiliations within the legal community.

Five candidates were competing for the Bar Association presidency: Sami Hassan, Safwan al-Moustafa, Saadi Qalaoun, Nazem al-Omar and Bassam Jamal.

Three candidates are in the running for the position of board member: Ibrahim Harfoush, Mariana al-Bacha and Fahd Zefa.
