Ministerial sources explained to Al-Jadeed that the Caretaker Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassin, could propose postponing the dismissal of the Army commander in the governmental session on Thursday in his capacity as coordinator of the emergency plan.
The sources added, “What is being proposed is to postpone the dismissal of the Army commander for a period of six months or until the election of a president of the republic.”
They indicated that the file for appointing the chief of staff is still pending, waiting for a name to be agreed upon, specifically from the Progressive Socialist Party.
It was also pointed out that the National Moderation Bloc proposed to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to postpone the retirement of General Othman in parallel with that of the Army Commander. They received a commitment from Berri that the postponement of the retirement would apply to both positions simultaneously.
