Lebanese Forces (LF) leader Samir Geagea affirmed that Lebanon might unfortunately slide into a regional war. “This is why we have to be very careful,” he said.

In an interview with the Italian Rai News 24, he noted that Lebanon undoubtedly faces many challenges, the main one currently having to do with the military situation. “It is crucial to get through the military phase peacefully,” he said, noting that there is only one way to do that. “Getting through the military phase is very important, and the only solution to that is by implementing Resolution 1701 as it should be applied, following the United Nations Security Council decision. This means that the Lebanese army alone should be present in southern Lebanon, with the assistance of international forces,” he insisted.

When asked about the presidential elections, Geagea firmly assured that there is no possibility of not electing a Christian president. “Ultimately, a president must be elected in accordance with the Lebanese Constitution, agreed-upon norms and all the established procedures,” he said.
