The former head of General Security, Abbas Ibrahim, might have a role in the hostage exchange issue between Israel and Hamas.

According to informed sources, Ibrahim reportedly traveled to Qatar last weekend and took part in meetings to that end.

Abbas Ibrahim’s initiative was allegedly taken in coordination with American envoy Amos Hochstein, who paid a surprise visit to Lebanon last Tuesday and met with the former director general.

Hochstein is scheduled to return to Beirut after a humanitarian ceasefire is enforced in Gaza.

According to the same sources, upon returning from Doha, Ibrahim sent a message to the relevant Lebanese parties, which could contribute to keeping Lebanon at a safe distance from the war in Gaza.

Ibrahim’s role in the hostage exchange is frowned upon by some Hezbollah officials, who consider that this issue is their exclusive prerogative.

It is worth noting that Abbas Ibrahim was previously the mediator in several hostage exchanges in the West, Syria, and Iran.
