The anti-Hezbollah Saydet el-Jabal Gathering called on MPs to “hold a general policy debate to discuss Hezbollah’s role in the Gaza war and its persistent violation of the Constitution and Resolution 1701.”

It also called on Parliament to immediately elect a President of the Republic, warning of the grave political dangers that the country is currently facing.

In a statement by the group’s political bureau issued at the end of its weekly meeting, Saydet el-Jabal said that Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah’s claim that Iran was not involved in the Hamas attack on October 7 was “not aimed at protecting Lebanon, but rather at protecting Iran and its allies.”

“The strategic objective of this claim is to maintain the Iranian occupation in Lebanon, rather than to protect the Palestinians in Gaza.”

Saydet el-Jabal further asserted that “what has prevented an extension of the war onto Lebanese territory is Hezbollah’s fear of a possible American reaction, not its deterrent force.”
