UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka met on Thursday with the caretaker Minister of Public Health, Firas Al-Abiad, and Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian to discuss the general situation in Lebanon and the state of the healthcare sector.
Abiad accompanied Wronecka on a tour of the Ministry’s emergency operations room, where he explained the operational procedures and the proposed contingency plan in case the war in Gaza spreads to Lebanon.
The UN Special Coordinator reaffirmed the continued support of United Nations organizations for the healthcare sector to enable it to carry out its duties.
Wronecka then met with the Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian, who also received a delegation from the leadership of Hamas in Lebanon, led by its representative Ahmed Abdel Hadi.
The latter stated after the meeting that he informed the Mufti about the actions undertaken to stop the “ruthless” Israeli aggression on Gaza.
