Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Nicoletta Bombardiere has vowed unwavering support for the government’s efforts to uphold security in the South.

During a meeting held on Thursday morning with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Grand Serail, Bombardiere commended the latter’s recent tour of the South and his visit to UNIFIL headquarters, which she said “sends a strong message of support to the United Nations forces.”

She stressed that Italy is keen on protecting UNIFIL forces and ensuring they carry out their assigned tasks. She also reiterated Italy’s strong support for development projects in various regions of Lebanon.

Mikati also met with UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, Imran Riza, the director of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Operations and Advocacy Division, Edim Wosornu, and a delegation from UN agencies.

The meeting focused on the government’s emergency plan designed to address developments and possible future scenarios linked to the raging war in Gaza and escalating tensions in south Lebanon.

Talks covered the coordination of efforts between the government and UN agencies in providing services, humanitarian aid, healthcare and social support, as well as supporting municipalities and civil defense in case of emergencies.
