The intensity of the confrontations between the demonstrators and the security forces increased on Wednesday at the American Embassy junction in Awkar, as the demonstrators repeatedly attempted to breach the barbed wire after successfully breaking through the iron wall.

The demonstrators threw fireworks, stones and flaming handkerchiefs at the security forces who, in response, continued to deploy water cannons and tear gas bombs and used flash balls, resulting in injuries and fainting among demonstrators.

The protesters attempted once again set fire to the Elias El Hage Gallery building near the American Embassy.

Furthermore, hundreds of protesters on motorcycles attempted to close the highway in Dbayeh, but were intercepted by the Lebanese Army. The army is currently at various checkpoints in Dbayeh to prevent the highway from being closed.

Confrontations broke on Tuesday evening in the vicinity of the US Embassy in Awkar between demonstrators and security forces following a demonstration organized in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to condemn the Al-Ahli Hospital massacre in Gaza.

The protesters had attempted to breach the barbed wire fence in front of the US Embassy in Awkar and pelted security forces with stones. In response, security forces fired tear gas and used water cannons to disperse the protesters.

The military had established a series of checkpoints in Dbayeh, near the ABC Mall, and at all entrances leading to Awkar.

Protesters also gathered on Tuesday evening around the French Embassy to denounce the Israeli attack. Protests near embassies have also been carried out across Arab and international countries in solidarity with Gaza.
