MP Waddah Sadek said on Tuesday that “no country can decide to involve Lebanon in a war,” denouncing the fact that the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hussein Abdollahian, “is talking on behalf of Lebanon about going to war.”

In a statement to This Is Beirut after the parliamentary session dedicated to the election of the Chamber’s Bureau and Parliamentary committees, Sadek emphasized “the extreme importance” of the recommendation that the opposition wanted the Parliament to issue.

The recommendation, he explained, states that Parliament “is the only functioning institution now in Lebanon” and should take any decision related to war and peace. “We have the right to defend ourselves,” Sadek said, insisting on the importance of the role of the Lebanese Army in this matter.

The recommendation, which was not put to vote, also “supports the Palestinian people against the war crimes committed in Gaza,” Sadek added.
