UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti officially released a statement regarding the events in South Lebanon today, stating that the UNIFIL is calling for an “urgent ceasefire.”

Tenenti stated, “At around 5:20 PM today, there was an intense exchange of gunfire between Lebanon and Israel in the vicinity of the towns of Alma al-Sha’b, Aita al-Sha’b, Al-Dahaira, Adaisseh, and Houla.”

“We learned with great sadness that during the mentioned exchanges of fire, a Lebanese photojournalist was killed, and there are reports of injuries to other journalists.”

According to Tenenti, the UNIFIL mission and its Force Commander, Major General Stefano Del Col, called for an urgent ceasefire, due to the possibility of the situation losing control. Despite this, UNIFIL forces are still cooperating with forces on both sides of the border.
