On Monday, the Saydet el-Jabal Gathering issued a statement addressing the Palestinian issue and the escalating regional tensions.

The participants advocated for a resolution based on international mandates and the Arab Peace Initiative, which includes the two-state solution.

Additionally, the Lebanese population closely monitored developments in Gaza and along the southern border, expressing concerns over potential Hezbollah, Iranian and Israeli involvement in Lebanon amid the ongoing Gaza violence. Lebanon has shown unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, setting it apart from other Arab nations. These events unfolded amid a governmental void, with no president, an inactive government and a parliament occupied with other matters. Hezbollah’s control over national decision-making further complicated the situation.

To address this crisis, the Saydet el-Jabal gathering and the National Council for Lifting the Iranian Occupation from Lebanon jointly resolved to demand caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati to convene an immediate cabinet session, forming a national entity to safeguard the Lebanese population. Hezbollah was sternly warned against leading Lebanon into military adventures that could result in loss of life and destruction.

The Cabinet, once convened, holds the responsibility of making decisions in accordance with the Lebanese Constitution. They also emphasized the need for all Lebanese citizens to recognize Lebanon’s status as a pawn in Iran’s regional ambitions, with potential consequences for all the Lebanese population. The call was made upon the international community to ensure strict implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, designating the Lebanese Army as the sole protector of Lebanon.

Furthermore, they urged all Lebanese people, both in Lebanon and worldwide, to engage in civil, popular and political actions to pressure governments and international capitals to secure Lebanon’s protection under UN Resolution 1701. The Saydet el-Jabal Gathering and the National Council will closely monitor unfolding developments in this evolving situation.
