On the 258th day of his sit-in at Parliament, MP Melhem Khalaf called for a debate to be held in the hemicycle, to be immediately followed by an open electoral ballot until the election of a President of the Republic.

In a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, Khalaf denounced the “collapse of the State and the disintegration of one institution after another” due to the absence of a president.

“The regulation of public life can only be achieved by electing a President of the Republic, and this is the personal and direct responsibility of the 128 parliamentarians,” he said, adding, “That’s why I’m proposing a session devoted to a debate focusing on the reasons preventing the implementation of Articles 74, 75, and 49 of the Constitution, to be immediately followed by an open ballot until a president is elected to save the country.”
