Caretaker Minister of the Environment Nasser Yassin wrote on the “X” platform, “In the past two days, we witnessed several forest and woodland fires that could have been catastrophic, in areas such as Marj Bisri, Qubaiyat, Akkar Al-Atiqa, Dinniyeh, Kafra, and other areas. The speed of response by civil defense teams, first responders, and the substantial support from the Lebanese Army Air Forces, along with water supply by municipalities, helped control these fires and prevent their expansion.”

Yassin added that most of these fires started with the negligence of some farmers who were burning dry weeds on their lands, which made the speed of the winds and low humidity contribute to their expansion.

“We collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture, natural reserve committees, municipalities, and environmental organizations to enforce the ban on burning grass and waste in these areas during this period, and to respect the forest law, which prohibits such activities in areas located within 500 meters of forests, from July 1 to October 31.”
