The Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) has reiterated its readiness to “take part in any dialogue likely to lead rapidly to the election of a President of the Republic.”

This dialogue must not be “traditional,” but “practical and effective,” “bilateral or multilateral,” with “the program of the new president, as well as his profile and name” on the agenda, reads a communiqué issued on Tuesday at the end of the party’s weekly political bureau meeting.

Its condition, however, is that “this dialogue must be followed by successive parliamentary sessions until the election of a head of state.”

The FPM also warned against a new wave of migration from Syria to Lebanon, stressing that these are “economically displaced persons.”

“Lebanon should not welcome them for the economic, humanitarian, and national reasons known to all,” said the FPM statement, calling on “the government and security forces concerned to assume their responsibilities and completely close the borders” between the two countries.
