MP Ghayath Yazbek expressed confusion regarding Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros al-Rai’s call for dialogue.
“Sorry, Your Eminence Rai, we didn’t understand your call to MPs today to engage in dialogue because we reinforced our position based on the content of your previous sermon,” Yazbek said in a tweet on “X” on Sunday.
He highlighted that in a previous sermon, Patriarch Rai had remarked, “No one understands why the June electoral session was severed in violation of Article 49 of the Constitution, and the real and effective dialogue is the vote in the Parliament to elect a president.”
During the Sunday Mass sermon at Dimane, the Patriarch’s summer residence, Rai called on Lebanese politicians to “set aside personal and sectarian interests” when attending a dialogue.
