Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Thursday that he is “confident that the Lebanese will be taking the right decision” when electing a president.

Speaking upon his arrival at Beirut airport, Abdollahian said he heard “constructive statements from Saudi officials about the situation in Lebanon” during his recent talks in Riyadh.

“I expect that Lebanon will receive international and regional economic and commercial support,” he said, stressing that Iran “will continue its strong support to Lebanon.”

Furthermore, he met with the leaders of the Palestinian factions, in particular those of the Hamas movement and “Islamic Jihad”. He stressed that “the Islamic Republic will strongly continue to support the resistance.”

The Iranian official’s visit comes about a month after the violent clashes in Ain el-Helwe between Fatah, the movement of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Islamist groups, which according to some sources, are supported by Iran.

Abdollahian, who was supposed to arrive in Beirut on Wednesday, delayed his trip by one day due to a stopover in Damascus.

The head of the Iranian diplomacy will be meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and will also be briefing Iran’s allies, notably Hezbollah, on the latest developments in the region, especially the outcome of his recent visit to Saudi Arabia.
