General Joseph Aoun, the Lebanese army commander, visited Beirut Air Base on Wednesday following an army helicopter crash in Hammana that resulted in the death of Captain Pilot Joseph Hanna and First Lieutenant Pilot Richard Saab. He stressed the significance of the military institution’s loss and the soldiers’ commitment, even to martyrdom when duty calls.

Aoun praised the air forces for their professionalism during various missions, particularly countering terrorism and recent firefighting efforts in Greece and Cyprus. He highlighted the forces’ excellence in maintaining and advancing the army’s aerial capabilities despite limited resources.

“We gain strength from our martyrs’ sacrifices. Their blood motivates our resilience and continuity. The army has seen martyrs in many missions, against the Israeli enemy, terrorism and drug criminals. We won’t retreat in challenges; we’ll persist, honoring our martyrs and soldiers’ dignity,” Aoun asserted.

He added, “The military institution thrives with you. You’re Lebanon’s backbone, confirmed by the trust of our people and friendly nations.”

Later, Aoun extended condolences to the martyred officers’ families in Choueifat and Baqaana, praising their dedication and noble character.
