Metropolitan bishop of the Greek Orthodox Church for the Archdiocese of Beirut Elias Audi emphasized in his Sunday sermon that “a state that fulfills its responsibilities respects its citizens and ensures them a dignified life. After securing their rights, the state then asks them to fulfill their duties.”

“But In Lebanon, citizens have hardly any rights, yet they are asked to fulfill their duties toward the state, which seizes every opportunity to burden its citizens,” Metropolitan Audi declared, then criticizing the government’s increase in taxes and asking, “What have they provided people in return?”
