Two people were killed and several wounded during a gunfire exchange on Wednesday, August 16, as part of a security operation in the town of Al-Khiyara situated in the Western Bekaa region.

The Army Command – Directorate of Guidance released a statement detailing the events that transpired.

According to the statement, a patrol dispatched by the Intelligence Directorate, with the support of an army unit, intervened to address an ongoing dispute on Wednesday. However, the situation escalated dramatically as the patrol members came under fire.

Responding swiftly to the imminent threat, the security personnel returned fire, leading to the death of two attackers, the army statement said.
