Speaker Nabih Berri received Caretaker Minister of Information Ziad Makary on Wednesday. The meeting focused on media-related issues, notably the state of Lebanon’s sole public television channel, Tele Liban, and the rights of employees for better renumeration and benefits.

Makary emphasized the possibility of accelerating the discussion of the new media law, which had been submitted by the Ministry of Information to Parliament’s Administration and Justice Committee.

The minister assured that the study of the new media law would soon start in Parliament.

During an interview with MTV channel on Tuesday, Makary reassured that “Tele Liban will not cease its operations as long as I am the Minister of Information.”

He reiterated this commitment during his meeting with Berri, confirming that the emblematic public channel would indeed remain operational.

Moreover, Makary stressed that “Tele Liban is the depository of Lebanon’s history and present, and we are hopeful that it will continue to serve in the future.”

He also promised that the employees of the television station “will receive their full rights, just as all public sector employees will.”
