Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri reaffirmed during an interview with the website Al-Intishar on Sunday that “the legislative session is proceeding as planned.”

Last week, Berri called for a legislative session on August 17 with an agenda including discussions about capital control and the approval of a bill related to the Sovereign Fund, since the Transocean Barents drilling rig is due to arrive to Lebanon on Monday.

These initiatives aim to rebuild international confidence in Lebanon and reassure its citizens about the responsible management of oil and gas resources.

Despite some parliamentary blocs, mainly the opposition, announcing their refusal to attend and participate in the session, Berri stated, “I am present and ready.”

He also commented on the Kahaleh incidents, stating that “Lebanon has successfully overcome a significant danger,” in reference to the deadly clashes between Hezbollah and inhabitants of this village on Wednesday.
