Taymur Jumblatt, the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), called for the appointment of a new Central Bank governor in Lebanon.

In a tweet on Monday, July 24. Jumblatt stated, “The least we can do to protect what remains of our institutions, is to appoint a new Central Bank governor. This would help the country avoid monetary and financial risks, which would further exacerbate the suffering of the Lebanese people. It is the government’s responsibility to act in this regard. Political forces should facilitate the process, away from the logic of distribution of shares, vetoes and counter-vetoes.”

The mandate of the current Governor of the Banque du Liban (BDL), Riad Salameh, officially ends on July 31.
