Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai openly criticized those responsible for obstructing the proper functioning of the State’s institutions in one of his sermons: “For whose benefit is the presidency being held hostage? And who will free it? Who has the power to sever the head of the State? Where is the Constitution, where is the law, and where is justice?”

At the inauguration of the Saint Charbel Church in Ehden on Friday, Rai went on to add that “as for us, we condemn and denounce all of this behavior, obstruction, and encroachment on the Constitution, the law, and the State. We denounce those who play with the destiny of the country and its people.”

Lebanese Parliament has failed to elect a president after 12 electoral sessions. The presidential vacuum goes one for the ninth consecutive month.
