Kataeb MP Elias Hankach said on Saturday that the party was ready for a dialogue, provided that it was not held “for the sake of dialogue” and that “its purpose is not to impose Sleiman Frangieh’s presidential candidacy on us.”

“We have never opposed dialogue,” Hankach told Voice of Lebanon (VDL) radio station, stressing that his party welcomes any measure aimed at breaking the deadlock in the presidential election.

In this respect, he recalled that to counter the candidacy of the Marada leader imposed by Hezbollah and its allies, the opposition parties and the Free Patriotic Movement agreed on the candidacy of former Finance Minister Jihad Azour.

Noting that Lebanon cannot continue to be run “statelessly” and “lawlessly,” Hankach reiterated the need to “review the Lebanese political system with a vision to further develop it.”

In this spirit, he called for the application of “extended decentralization, since this is the only way to preserve the demographic existence of the Lebanese people, especially since the current system has several flaws.”
