MP Marwan Hamadeh, a member of the “Democratic Gathering” parliamentary bloc, anticipates the resumption of dialogue and mediation following the upcoming electoral session scheduled for Wednesday. According to Hamadeh, the first mediation effort will be led by the French Ambassador to Lebanon, Jean Yves Le Drian, who will arrive in Lebanon next week.

The MP stressed the importance of this visit as it follows two days of negotiations held in Paris between the five parties involved in the Lebanese file, namely Saudi Arabia, France, Qatar, Egypt, and the US.

In an interview with “Sawt Lubnan” (Voice of Lebanon), Hamadeh said he believes that “both the opposition and the Moumanaa camp (Amal and Hezbollah)  will draw conclusions after Wednesday’s session and determine the approach for presenting their programs.” He argued that Sleiman Frangieh, the candidate of the Moumanaa, “cannot persist with a discourse centered around the Ehden massacre.”

Hamadeh noted that the opposition and FPM candidate, Jihad Azour, “may need to elaborate his program, if stakeholders or other mediators demand more details, particularly regarding a defense strategy and Hezbollah’s weapons.”

He pointed out that “Amal and Hezbollah have no Plan B”. “For them, it is either Frangieh or no one else,” Hamadeh added.

He stated that “if the need arises to search for a third candidate, Amal and Hezbollah will be compelled to adjust their position in accordance with the prevailing Lebanese, Arab, and international circumstances.”
