France’s Ambassador to Lebanon Anne Grillo met on Tuesday, June 13, with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati to discuss the new French mission in preparation for the anticipated visit of Jean-Yves le Drian, President Emmanuel Macron’s personal envoy for Lebanon.

Le Drian is expected to arrive on Monday, June 19, to Lebanon.

Grillo had met on Monday, June 12, with both Speaker Nabih Berry and Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdallah Bou Habib.

Following the meeting, Bou Habib announced that Le Drian would be arriving next week to Lebanon. However, the specific date of his arrival was not mentioned.

The former French Minister of foreign Affairs’ mission consists of “facilitating” a “consensual and effective” solution to the serious political impasse plaguing the country, as recently announced by the Élysée Palace, which added that Macron had asked his envoy to “report quickly on the situation” in the country.
