“The hesitation exhibited by certain MPs in the presidential race, under the pretext of not taking sides, serves Hezbollah’s agenda at the expense of the state and Jihad Azour is the third option because he is not the opposition’s candidate, but a moderate one,” said MP Michel Moawad, head of the Independence Movement, to local broadcaster MTV on Monday.

“This hesitation would lead us to either submit to Hezbollah’s will and to his candidate, or to prolongate the presidential vacuum, and in the best-case scenario, enhance Hezbollah’s negotiation card,” Moawad added.

Moawad concluded saying that the May 7 approach does not intimidate them and they will not submit to any project of domination.

From his side, MP Ziad Hawat (Lebanese Forces) echoed Moawad, stating that “every MP will assume his responsibility and materialize all their electoral promises and programs at the balloting box.”

Hawat concluded, saying that “every MP that hesitates or goes to another option is automatically abandoning his national responsibility and is either knowingly or unknowingly contributing to the destruction of what’s left of the republic.”
