Outgoing Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati made an early morning visit to southern Lebanon on Tuesday, amid continuing tensions on the southern border with Israel.

He was received at the South Litani Military Command Headquarters, in Tyre, by the head of the army, General Joseph Aoun.

Mr Mikati and General Aoun co-chaired a meeting with the officers in charge of the southern sector, who briefed them on the situation on the ground at the border.
