In view of the very substantial losses suffered by the Lebanese economy, economic bodies expressed their deep concern at the heavy pressure being put on private institutions. They announced the formation of a committee to prepare an economic emergency plan that would enable the national economy and private institutions to withstand the challenge.

The economic bodies held an extraordinary meeting on Thursday, chaired by former Minister Mohammad Choucair, to discuss the latest developments in the country, in particular the war and its disastrous repercussions at various levels.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the organizations stressed the need for Lebanese unity to face the challenges.

They also urged the Lebanese state, including all relevant institutions and agencies, to take immediate steps to regulate the conditions of the displaced and provide for their needs.

The organizations called on the international community, in particular relief and humanitarian organizations, to provide urgent assistance to Lebanon to enable the state to fulfill its duties towards the displaced and provide them with the necessary conditions for a decent life. They also called on the military and security forces to support the process of organizing and integrating the displaced in order to preserve their safety and maintain civil peace.

Finally, they called for the implementation of resolution 1701 to put an end to the war against Lebanon and reiterated the need to elect a president of the Republic and form an emergency government.
