Caretaker Minister of Transport and Public Works Ali Hamieh engaged in discussions in Paris with his French counterpart, Patrice Vergriete, regarding the reconstruction plan for the Port of Beirut. The unveiling of the French plan for the rehabilitation of the Port of Beirut is officially scheduled for March 13.
More than a year ago, Hamieh had urged France to formulate an optimal plan aligning with Lebanon’s financial resources. At that time, three companies were commissioned by France to develop a proposal for the rehabilitation of the port, with an estimated cost ranging from $50 to $100 million. The project is designed to be self-financed by the port.
Hamieh expressed gratitude to France “for the assistance it has provided and continues to provide to Lebanon, particularly in sectors under the Ministry of Public Works, such as the technical assistance provided by French companies in charge of this project.”
The Minister affirmed that he had recently requested the preparation of specifications for various port facilities, as well as those pertaining to new services.
