Marwan al-Yemen, President of the Syndicate of Shipping Agents in Lebanon, asserted on Tuesday that, despite tense security conditions following the conflict between Hamas and Israel, port activities in Lebanon were continuing at the pace set by shipowners.

However, he revealed that a slight decrease was recorded in orders for imported goods (non-oil) in the non-essential goods category. Similarly, some export contracts have been suspended due to concerns expressed by traders abroad. He stressed that it is difficult at present to predict the extent of the decline in activity and goods flows in the period ahead.

He affirmed that no fees or increases have so far been imposed on sea freight by the various shipping lines.
