The Ministry of Telecommunications announced on Tuesday that it had obtained, along with Ogero, a Chinese donation “of more than 8 million dollars to purchase equipment that will make it possible to supply 380 power stations with solar energy.”

It further indicated that a donation collection ceremony will be organized on Friday “in order to ensure the funds necessary for the installation” of this equipment, in reference to solar panels, batteries, and cables.

The project should be completed during the summer of 2024, the ministry announced in a press release, specifying that in the medium term, it was able to obtain from the Council of Ministers a decision under which “part of the Iraqi fuel, which will be obtained by Lebanon, will be used, from November in principle, to supply telephone exchanges with electricity, but following the rationing program currently in force.” According to the release, this quantity is expected to last until the end of 2024.

Additionally, the ministry highlighted that “the Council of Ministers has approved the allocation of 1.5 billion pounds, which will be disbursed in the coming days to facilitate necessary maintenance and development operations to sustain the services it offers. According to the text, “The ministry does not announce or promise anything to the Lebanese, but it can assure them that it is about to emerge from the dark tunnel into which the (absence of) electricity has plunged it and bring its services back to the level of last year.”
