Caretaker Minister of Telecommunications Johnny Corm described the situation of the public landline and internet provider, Ogero, as well as the quality of its services, as disastrous. He highlighted that Ogero urgently needs funds to enable the ministry to effectively carry out its functions.

In an interview with Voice of Lebanon, Corm stated that the ministry did not receive any funding for maintenance in the 2022 budget.

He added, “The current exchange rate for Ogero is 25,500 LBP, which covers costs, assuming the exchange rate remains stable at around 90,000 LBP to the US dollar.”

Regarding the project to legalize unauthorized internet connections, Corm said that there was progress in that regard, as he specified that he has obtained the details of all subscribers. “The figures we have collected so far indicate that 60,000 customers will be connected to the national grid, but the screening process requires time,” he went on to say.
