The President of the Association of Travel and Tourist Agents in Lebanon Jean Abboud said on Friday that air traffic at Beirut International Airport has increased by 25% with some 110 daily landings, compared to the normal range of 90 to 95 arrivals per day.

He added that the national flag carrier Middle East Airlines (MEA) and foreign airlines serving Beirut have also scheduled additional flights for July and August, the two busiest months in terms of airport activity.

Abboud also said he expected the number of passengers arriving at the airport to surge to 1.8 million this summer, with August being the busiest month, adding that Arab and foreign tourists accounted for approximately 30% to 35% of the total number of visitors.

The estimate indicates a significant increase in the activity of the airport, which received 430,000 people in June of last year.

“There is a large number of arrivals expected at Beirut airport, and authorities have taken the necessary measures in that regard. This includes increasing the number of airport employees and securing fuel to operate the facilities,” Abboud stated.
