The curtain fell last Sunday on Milan Fashion Week, unveiling the trends for Women’s Fashion for Spring-Summer 2025, characterized by the omnipresence of orange.
Whether it be tangerine, bisque, dawn, ochre, carrot, or pumpkin, orange has dominated nearly all the Milanese runways during the most recent Milan Fashion Week. This color is emerging as a new staple for Italian fashion houses, presented in a multitude of shades. At the Prada show, it captured attention through anoraks, retro 1950s skirts, and even on the models’ feet. At Roberto Cavalli, golden reflections inspired by the sunsets of artistic director Fausto Puglisi’s native Sicily enrich a collection dedicated to the sea.
Ferrari’s ready-to-wear line has expertly blended the brand’s iconic red with warm orange tones, creating a chic aesthetic. Ferragamo showcases orange in leather mini-dresses and shoes, adding a touch of brilliance to the ensemble. Lastly, at Bottega Veneta, this vibrant hue pairs with “color block” dresses. Marco de Vincenzo for Etro employs it in his scarf sarongs adorned with paisley patterns, complemented by cropped sweatshirts.
High Fashion Ready-to-Wear
The Italian shows have also highlighted numerous pieces embellished with feathers, embroidery, pearls, and rhinestones, celebrating the artisanal craftsmanship of the major houses and giving the outfits a more haute couture than streetwear vibe. This trend may explain the soaring prices for certain creations. At Fendi, Kim Jones has made this his mantra, stating, “In a context like this, people are looking for special pieces, not something everyone can afford.” His collection stands out for its refined details and meticulous applications of sequins, micro-crystals, and micro-beads, evoking the spirit of the 1920s.
Panties, Veils, and Tights
This trend, while not new, seems to be solidifying. On the runways, designers continue to present panties or mini-shorts paired with sheer veils, as seen at Fendi, or striped at Prada. Net dresses were showcased at Cavalli and Etro, while Max Mara advocates for classic chic with a white shirt. Dolce & Gabbana pays homage to Madonna with a multitude of pointed-bust corsets. Prada, for its part, reinvents tights by cinching them to transform them into trousers. Ferragamo draws inspiration from the world of dance, presenting models in bodysuits and tights.
Oversized Sunglasses
The sun and its harmful effects on the skin prompt us to protect ourselves more: fashion suggests that we embrace oversized sunglasses next summer. At Prada, these sunglasses take on the appearance of superhero masks. Deep hats and caps transform into hybrid headwear combined with oversized sunglasses. At Ferrari, the mega-sunglasses boast a sporty style, while Emporio Armani offers round, retro models.
