Émotions Florissantes (Flourishing Emotions) by Aline Abi Fadel will be held from March 1st to the 15th at Maher Attar’s studio. This exhibition offers a journey into the heart of abstract expressionism, exploring the realm of emotions through a unique play of colors and shapes. The works in this collection celebrate the human experience, with each brush stroke representing a story, a moment, or a memory, evoking the constant turmoil of our lives.

During the hanging of the exhibition, I had the privilege of meeting Aline Abi Fadel and the curator, Muriel Asmar. This exciting exchange allowed me to discover the artist’s creative journey, marked by gentleness, beauty, and kindness, mirroring her artistic work.

Through her explosions of color, Aline Abi Fadel shares her intimacy, expressing sufferings and anxieties with which everyone can identify. For her, “art is a form of therapy,” a way to heal through painting. Each artwork’s title is carefully chosen, sometimes provocative, never leaving the audience indifferent. Aline wishes her canvases to provoke a reaction — any reaction — leaving it up to the audience to appreciate them or not. In front of these works, it is our own inner feelings that speak, reflecting our lives, our fears, and our moments of happiness. From failed relationships to the famous last conversations, through broken promises, each emotion is identifiable and carries us into a reflection on ourselves. Aline’s canvases are like mirrors of our own emotions.

Her exhibition “Flourishing Emotions” is the fruit of “two years of insomnia” for the artist, but also the result of a long artistic career. She had to explore many paths to achieve this striking result. The canvases, vast and airy, capture the calm and serenity that the artist has found, as if she had finally freed herself from a burden of emotions.

The artist, known for her layering techniques called “layer,” where layers of paint accumulate to create relief on the canvases, thus expressed the buried emotions she has managed to overcome. Now, her creation process has evolved, adopting precise lines, a symbol of mastery of her art, and carefully chosen colors. Each color is meticulously selected to correspond to a certain emotion. The combination of these hues is orchestrated to reflect moments of her life. For example, according to Aline, red symbolizes love but can also evoke a form of aggressiveness, while orange is associated with tranquility. To express sadness, the artist uses several shades of blue in the same hue, thus reflecting different phases of this feeling throughout life. Every detail is carefully thought out, including the raw spaces in the canvases, offering moments of breathing and contemplation. These empty spaces, like pauses, give us a moment to breathe, in the whirlwind of life’s emotions.

“Flourishing Emotions” by Aline Abi Fadel is an intimate exhibition by the artist, but it relates universal feelings, immersing the spectators in their own neuroses. Her art offers everyone the possibility to identify in their own way.
