Television’s glitterati graced the Emmys red carpet in Los Angeles on Monday, January 15, showcasing trends that emerged from a whirlwind week of awards shows in Hollywood. The fashion zeitgeist was defined by a trio of hues: resplendent red gowns, luxurious purple attire and an abundance of sophisticated, alluring black.

The Peacock Theatre, hosting the 75th Emmy Awards, bore witness to an array of stunning ensembles:

In Crimson and Scarlet

Sarah Snook of Succession, who secured the Best Drama Actress accolade, radiated elegance in a red draped Vivienne Westwood ball gown featuring a daring neckline, complemented by a sparkling choker. Janelle James, nominated for her role in Abbott Elementary, echoed this theme in a crimson Rodarte gown with a lingerie-inspired design. Similarly, Camila Morrone of Daisy Jones & the Six captivated in a red Versace dress, complete with a trailing train. Katherine Heigl, appearing for a Grey’s Anatomy reunion, invoked Old Hollywood glamour in a strapless red Reem Acra gown, accentuated by a brooch, the season’s essential accessory.

The Allure of Black

The timeless appeal of black was unmistakably present. Ayo Edebiri, a recent Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award recipient for The Bear, continued her winning streak at the Emmys in a sculptural strapless black leather Louis Vuitton gown. Edebiri, reflecting on her journey, shared with the E! network, “I didn’t dream of nights like this. I sort of dreamed of, just, dental insurance.” Jennifer Coolidge, triumphant again for The White Lotus, captivated in a diaphanous black pleated gown with sheer sleeves and a bronze pattern. On the men’s front, Tyler James Williams of Abbott Elementary exuded coolness in a leather Dolce and Gabbana tuxedo, eschewing the traditional shirt.

Majestic in Purple

Purple, evocative of regal elegance, dominated the fashion scene, likely influenced by the recent adaptation of The Color Purple. Rachel Brosnahan, former Emmy winner for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and nominee that evening, was resplendent in a purple Versace corset gown, boasting a high slit. Describing her outfit, Brosnahan told E! she felt akin to a “warrior princess.” Taraji P. Henson donned a sultry sleeveless purple gown with a bold bodice cutout and a dramatic leg reveal, also featuring a train, another significant trend on the red carpet. Elizabeth Debicki, nominated for her portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown, stunned in a regal Dior burgundy velvet column gown, revealing an elegant back. Daniel Radcliffe, in the running for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his portrayal of Weird Al Yankovic, made a stylish appearance in a purple tuxedo accented with black lapels.

Jewels: The Male Statement

This awards season has seen an ubiquitous presence of brooches, particularly adorning the lapels of male Hollywood stars, and the Emmys were no exception. Host Anthony Anderson appeared during the ceremony sporting a glittering dragonfly pin, while Colman Domingo chose a pearl brooch, and nominee Joel Kim Booster complemented his brown tux with a bejeweled bird brooch.
