The IDF said it assassinated Ali Youssef Harshi in Beirut on Wednesday, the personal secretary of Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem.

In an official statement, the Israeli military confirmed the killing of Harshi, describing him as a key figure within Hezbollah and a close associate of its leadership.

Who Was the Target?

According to Israeli officials, Harshi served as the personal secretary and close adviser to Naim Qassem, Hezbollah’s deputy secretary-general, and was also his nephew.

The military said Harshi played a central operational role, overseeing the management and security of Qassem’s office, a position that placed him at the core of the group’s internal coordination and communications.

Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee described him as a “close aide and personal adviser,” emphasizing his involvement in sensitive organizational functions.

A Targeted Assassination Within a Broader Campaign

The strike took place amid one of the most intense waves of Israeli bombardment on Lebanon since the war began, with more than 100 targets hit across the country within minutes the day before.

Israeli officials framed the killing as part of a broader effort to dismantle Hezbollah’s command structure, targeting not only frontline operatives but also individuals embedded within its leadership apparatus.

In the same operational context, the Israeli military said it struck key logistical crossings used by Hezbollah to transport weapons south of the Litani River, along with multiple weapons depots, launch sites, and command centers in southern Lebanon.

The assassination signals a continued shift toward high-value, precision targeting of figures close to Hezbollah’s leadership, rather than solely focusing on infrastructure or field units.

The strike came during a day described by Lebanese sources as one of the most violent since the outbreak of the conflict.

Hundreds of casualties and injuries were reported following widespread Israeli airstrikes on Beirut and other regions, overwhelming hospitals and marking a sharp escalation in the war’s intensity.
