The U.S. Department of State’s Rewards for Justice program announced on Tuesday a reward of up to $10 million for information on Akram ‘Abbas al-Kabi, identified as the founder and leader of the Iraqi militia group Harakat al-Nujaba (HAN).
In its official statement the program said, “Akram ‘Abbas al-Kabi is the founder and leader of Harakat al-Nujaba, an Iran-aligned terrorist militia group in Iraq.”
According to the department, the group has carried out attacks against U.S. diplomatic facilities and military positions in Iraq and Syria, including incidents that resulted in the killing of a U.S. contractor and injuries to American personnel.
U.S. authorities have previously designated al-Kabi as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist under Executive Order 13224, freezing any assets under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibiting American persons from engaging in transactions with him.
