Nawaf Salam on Wednesday issued an urgent appeal to the international community, calling on Lebanon’s allies to intervene as Israeli airstrikes continue to expand across the country, including densely populated areas of the capital.

The appeal comes as Lebanon finds itself increasingly isolated from a broader de-escalation framework following the U.S.-Iran ceasefire, with violence on its territory showing no signs of slowing.

Government Warns of Escalating Civilian Toll

Salam said that while Beirut had welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran and intensified diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire in Lebanon, Israeli operations had instead widened.

He pointed to strikes targeting residential neighborhoods, particularly in Beirut, resulting in civilian casualties.

“All friends of Lebanon are called upon to help us stop these attacks by all available means,” Salam said, warning that continued escalation risks deepening the humanitarian crisis.

Presidency Accuses Israel of Violating International Law

In a parallel statement, Lebanon’s presidency condemned the ongoing strikes, accusing Israel of systematically disregarding international law and humanitarian norms.

Officials described the latest wave of attacks as part of a pattern of repeated violations over the past months, despite previous agreements aimed at halting hostilities.

The presidency warned that Israel’s actions represent a “dangerous escalation” and holds it fully responsible for the consequences, stressing that continued military operations risk further destabilizing Lebanon and the wider region.
