- U.S. Weighs Limited Ground Operation in Iran: Report
The United States Department of Defense is preparing potential military options involving limited ground operations in Iran, according to a report by The Washington Post. The plans, which fall short of a full-scale invasion, could involve thousands of troops and last from several weeks to a few months.
U.S. officials stated that no decision has been made by Donald Trump. The White House emphasized that such planning is standard procedure, noting that the Pentagon’s role is to provide the president with “maximum optionality.”
Among the options under consideration is the possible seizure of Kharg Island, a key oil export hub in the Persian Gulf. Additional scenarios include targeted raids along coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz to eliminate threats to commercial and military shipping.
While timelines remain uncertain, officials suggest operations could take anywhere from weeks to a couple of months.
For now, the plans remain under review, highlighting ongoing tensions in a region critical to global energy security.
