Tensions escalated on Wednesday as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced an expansion of Israel’s security zone along the northern border, according to Israeli media outlet Ynet.

Speaking to northern Israeli local leaders, Netanyahu said the buffer zone will “distance the anti-tank threat” from Israeli communities and prevent further civilian displacement. He added that Israel is “committed to fundamentally changing the situation in Lebanon.”

Southern Front

In parallel, the Israeli military reported a targeted operation inside southern Lebanon. According to IDF Arabic Spokesperson Avichay Adraee, forces from the Egoz Unit, operating under the 210th Division, carried out an operation in the Mount Dov area.

The army said it arrested the leader of a cell affiliated with the “Lebanese Resistance Brigades,” described as a Hezbollah-linked group. The suspect was transferred to Unit 504 for further interrogation following what the military described as a prolonged intelligence operation.

Meanwhile, according to the National News Agency, Israeli airstrikes were reported across southern Lebanon throughout the day. The agency also reported a strike targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs early Wednesday morning.

These developments come amid a broader escalation along the Lebanese-Israeli front, with military activity intensifying and political rhetoric hardening on both sides.
