In an exclusive conversation, This is Beirut spoke with a senior official from the White House, who stated that the U.S. supports Israel’s operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon and that U.S. military action is focused on Iran.
The official said that “the United States fully supports Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah and other Iranian-backed terrorist forces threatening its territory.”
“While Israel is leading the current operations against Hezbollah positions in Lebanon,” they added, “the United States remains prepared to provide the support necessary to ensure Israel’s security and protect American forces in the region.”
The official spoke on the current U.S. priorities, saying that “our military focus remains on degrading Iran’s ability to direct and arm proxy attacks across the Middle East.”
They continued that Hezbollah will face consequences, while reiterating that a war in Lebanon is not a goal. “We are not seeking a wider war in Lebanon, but Hezbollah should understand clearly that continued aggression will bring decisive consequences,” they said.
