U.S. and Iranian officials prepare for the next set of talks set to occur in Geneva on Thursday as the two parties seek to move closer to an arrangement on the nuclear issue.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Geneva on Wednesday and presented a nuclear agreement proposal to the Omani Foreign Minister. The Iranian goal is to get sanctions relief out of a nuclear deal.
Araghchi has expressed optimism going into Thursday’s talks, stating that a nuclear deal is “within reach.”

During his State of the Union speech on Tuesday, Trump stated that the Iranians “want to make a deal, but we haven’t heard those secret words: ‘we will never have a nuclear weapon,’” which is a departure from his January stance of zero-tolerance for any uranium enrichment capabilities.
The objective of the Trump administration is to prioritize a diplomatic approach. On Monday, a senior U.S. Official told This is Beirut that Thursday’s talks will focus on “measurable de-escalation backed by verifiable steps.”
